Porn and Feminism

I am a feminist.  I believe that women should be treated (and paid) on an equal basis as men when they prove themselves as qualified.  I see no reason for us to steer women toward being nurses and men toward being doctors when a woman can hold a scalpel every bit as a man can.  Women can also run companies, design buildings and run efficient governments every bit as well as their male counterparts so it makes no sense that they never seem to get their fair chance to do so.

The disturbing part of the situation is that we quietly condone the gender gap just as well as we pretend that racism doesn’t exist.  I’m not willing to pretend that the status quo is alright so I will gladly proclaim myself a feminist and work hard to shape a world where women get all the respect that they are due.

But, that isn’t the whole story.  You see, I’m all about some porn and strippers.  I might be a feminist but I’m not gonna turn down an opportunity to have a half naked woman dance on my lap; at least until I get married.  After marriage I’m gonna have to try really, really hard not to let it happen.

Also, I also understand the exploitive nature of porn.  I feel for those women who get steered into being used as toys and sex objects.  The problem is that I’m a heterosexual man and I just love seeing boobs and booties.   Hell, if my woman was naked more often I probably wouldn’t have a blog at all… or a computer… or an Xbox.
Now, I don’t consider myself sex-crazed or excessively horny, I’m just a man that loves to see naked women.  Is that so wrong?

I’m a feminist but I by no means think that means I have to ignore my attraction to the fairer sex.  I respect women for their accomplishments, their abilities and their intelligence but that doesn’t mean I won’t sneak a peek at some boobs given the chance.  I’m just a man and I don’t mean any disrespect.  The fact that men love boobs and women have them keeps the human race alive.

It might be demeaning for a woman to take off her top and gyrate in my face for 10 dollars and I don’t envy anyone that has to make that choice every night.  That being said, there are times when I feel like if paying 10 dollars is the only way that I’m going to get to see a naked woman dance, it’s totally worth it.  I didn’t tell anyone to rely on their sexual prowess to get by but if a young lady happens to be offering to be used, you can’t blame a man for wanting to participate.

On another note, what about guys that are being milked for our cash?  Strippers know that we (most of us) are predisposed to want to see that shit.  They know that a wiggle and a smile can earn them 20 dollars in 5 minutes and there’s only a certain amount of wiggling and smiling that any man can resist.  We’re victims in this too.

The porn industry also cashes in the big bucks off the fact that men enjoy seeing naked women.  It also helps the porn industry that men still get paid disproportionately more than women.  Women usually request more when it comes to sexual arousal but not us men.  We just want to see a naked woman do something that we wish some woman would do to us.  It’s a simple formula and pornographers don’t have to worry about being innovative, redundant or groundbreaking.  Most porn has essentially the same premise: These people are going to have sex.  Oh, there might be some shitty acting and some even worse dialogue but nobody watches porn for the screenplay and from what I’ve seen, these people really don’t deserve lines anyway.  A lot of people in porn are just plain unfit to do anything that requires higher brain function (like acting).  That’s not to say that they can’t smarten up and learn to cook French fries, but it seems, like working at McDonald’s, any intelligence will certainly hinder your job performance and only lead you to realize how much your job sucks.

On a side note, you ever notice that girl on girl porn is even directed at men?  Gay porn is clearly for gay men but there’s no such thing as Lesbian porn.  Lesbians just have to put up with that annoying guy just like heterosexual men do.  Trust me ladies, If we could get those annoying ass dudes out of porn, we would too.

But, I digress.  I accept women as my equals as human beings.  That is what they deserve, whether they shake their asses or run the nation they are not inherently inferior to some other human being because they don’t have a penis.  That’s not saying that some women aren’t stupid or make bad decisions in life but as a sex, they haven’t proven themselves any dumber than men.

Before I get off my soapbox I want to place a little blame on the victims.  That’s right ladies, some of this shit is your fault.  There is no way that 51% of the population can get treated unfairly without either letting it happen or condoning the situation.  How the hell did so many of you get duped into thinking that God wants you to be treated worse than men?  Forget David Blane.  That might be the greatest trick ever pulled.  How in the hell are there so many women anti-feminist?  I’ll consider that I could be wrong and God is punishing women for something that one woman did eons ago.  I suppose that it’s possible.  If you read the Old Testament it does seem that God be tripping sometimes.  He turned Lot’s wife into salt for looking… that’s harsh.  It at least seems to me that an all loving God wouldn’t punish you for something somebody you didn’t even know did a long time ago… unless you mean you have to suffer the legacy of slavery in America.  I feel you on that one.

Ok, in conclusion, I love women.  I love the shape of them, the way they move, and the way they sound.  I also love humanity.  Our capacity to love outshines our capacity for destruction (barely at times) and it is that thing that makes our lives livable and I enjoy that about the inhabitants of our little planet.

I’m not ashamed to say that I want all people to be treated fairly.  That being said, I’m also not ashamed to admire the beauty in the world around me, if that happens to be a 20-year old woman with her top off dancing to 2Live Crew, fine by me.

There's gold in them thar crates

Right now I’m listening to Camp Lo’s Uptown Saturday Night.   I don’t know how much play this album got around the nation when it dropped in 1997, but it didn’t get any love in Kansas City, but If you haven’t heard, it is the shit! I don’t know when it became the general consensus that rap music that didn’t come out in the last 6 months isn’t good but we have to remember hip-hop’s history of being the product of people that were willing to dig in those crates. Bargain bins at the used CD store, garage sales and amazon.com all have great CDs that you never heard.   Not to mention all of those CDs with 2 or 3 great songs on them. My point is that great music doesn’t have a shelf life.   Just because Kanye and Jay-Z keep coming out with hits doesn’t mean Reasonable Doubt and The College Dropout aren’t great CDs.   It’s just the opposite.   There has been a long time since somebody referred to a rap album that is universally referred to as a classic.   Think about it.   There have

I'm going to get myself killed

I’m not suicidal or anything.   I just tend to forget to protect myself.   I don’t even get scared when things get real.   I remember distinctly the first time I saw someone try to kill someone else. Me and the boys were partaking in our favorite pastime; playing football in the street.   It was around the time we were all in middle school so I was around 12 years old.   I had probably just passed the 100 lbs. mark.   It was like any other afternoon in the summer but suddenly some man came running up the street.   Something was off about him.   He was running too hard.   He wasn’t even running that fast but you could tell he was trying his heart out.   Just as he was turning the corner at the end of the block, we found out why.   Another man came up the hill behind us as we watched the running man go.   He wasn’t running either.   He had more of a brisk walk.   When he got far enough over the slope of the hill he raised his right arm, took aim and fired three shots while he was
Maury must be stopped. No one has profited more from Black people being ignorant than he.   I know the old saying: “Mama’s baby, Papa’s maybe.” But, contrary to popular belief, Black men love their children.   Everyone loves children.   Even if Black men realize that they aren’t bringing much to a household, they know that there is magic there.   That magic might be scary, like all magic, but it’s there.   There isn’t much difference between the love that develops between a man and a child with his D.N.A.   and a man that a child that he has raised. I am my father’s son.   No, I’m not light skinned or a hustler, but I laugh when I hear something funny.   I’ll sit on a porch and dink liquor all Saturday morning.   My toes are extraordinarily long (just like his).   I will see a beautiful woman and take notice just because I am a man and that’s what a man does.   My dad raised me well. When you see a Black man on Maury, you know he is going to be running from the responsibil
